Florida woman hit by flying turtle on Highway

DAYTONA BEACH, FL — If it wasn’t for bad luck, one Florida woman would have no luck at all — at least according to her daughter.

A 71-year-old woman riding with her daughter on Florida’s Interstate 95 was injured this week when a turtle flew through the car windshield and hit her in the head, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.

The woman, who was not identified in reports, was taken to the hospital with a gash on her forehead.

Amazingly, the turtle only suffered a few scratches on its shell. It was later released in a nearby wooded area.

At first, the woman’s daughter didn’t know what hit the car. It wasn’t until she called 911 that a good Samaritan, who had pulled over to help, found the pokey reptile in the vehicle’s backseat.

“I swear to God this lady has the worst luck of anything,” the daughter reportedly told the 911 operator as she tended to her injured mother.

Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time a flying turtle was behind an accident on a Florida highway. In 2016, a turtle crashed through Nicole Bjanes’ windshield as she was driving about 75 miles per hour on Interstate 4 near Deltona, ABC News reported.

In that case, Florida State Patrol said another vehicle had likely run over the turtle, causing it to go airborne.

In a Facebook post, Bjanes wrote that even though the turtle was okay and she very much wanted to keep it, they too returned it to the wild.
