Hialeah man arrested on charges of sexually assaulting 80-year-old ex-mother-in-law

For more than a year, police said, an 80-year-old Hialeah woman refused to tell her daughter that her ex-husband was systematically raping her.

The old woman was afraid that saying something like that to her daughter could cause her great pain. However, the daughter ended up finding out what happened, and confronted the man, Juan Iván Granda, 57, with photographs of the sexual assault that he kept on his cell phone.

On Tuesday, nearly five months after the woman reported the alleged rapes to authorities, Granda was taken into custody by Hialeah police and charged with five counts of sexual assault against an incapacitated victim and detention against her will. The subject was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight (TGK) Jail, where bail was set at $ 255,000.

“The victim stated that the defendant raped her several times in the past year,” the agent who arrested Granda wrote in his report. “On several occasions, he threw her on the bed and sexually assaulted her.” The report also indicates that Granda raped the woman in her car on one occasion when he took her to the doctor.

Granda lived in the house of her former mother-in-law, despite being separated from his wife. More than once, Granda threatened to commit suicide if his ex forced him to leave his mother’s house.

According to Granda’s arrest report, police spoke with the elderly woman, whose name was not released, in July. However, the report does not explain why the police did not act until this week.

According to the arrest report, when the old woman told her daughter what was happening, she could not believe the story her mother told her. It was then that he found the photos. Police said Granda confessed to committing the crime. As of Wednesday, it was not known if Granda had no no attorney to represent him.
