A pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run near Fort Lauderdale.
The incident took place in the southbound lanes of State Road 7 at Davie Boulevard shortly before 6 a.m., Wednesday.
7SkyForce HD hovered over the scene where several Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies could be seen investigating. The body could be seen covered by a yellow tarp in the middle of the roadway.
Detectives said two different vehicles struck the woman.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the second driver initially left the scene before seeing the story on the news and eventually returned.
Investigators are now searching for the first driver.
Nearby businesses have several surveillance cameras near the scene which may be used in the investigation to find the driver who fled the scene.
Surveillance footage showed someone waving at oncoming traffic to slow down.
“I feel sad for this person because maybe somebody is waiting after noon for this person to come back home, and it’s not going to happen,” said nearby resident Gustavo Sanchez.
7News cameras captured investigators speaking with a woman on the side of the road and gathering evidence from her gray Chevy SUV. They took pictures of damage on the right side of her vehicle.
It remains unclear how the woman is involved in the incident.
Traffic in the northbound lanes was shut down but has since reopened.
