In Miami Beach, two adjacent properties—a highly customized modern home designed with a “slow” staircase and an empty lot next door—has sold for a combined $37.5 million.
The 6,758-square-foot waterfront home sold for its full $25.5 million asking price, and the 16,000-square-foot lot sold for another $12 million, public records show. The resulting sale is a record for the neighborhood of Altos Del Mar, a gated community of 24 homes, according to Ruthie Assouline of the Assouline Team at Compass, who represented the seller along with her husband Ethan Assouline.
The buyer is Victor Ciardelli, president and chief executive of the mortgage company Guaranteed Rate, according to public records. “I’m super excited,” he said. “It’s an amazing lifestyle house for me and the kids.”
One unusual highlight of the home is what seller Moss Kadey refers to as a “slow-case”: The home’s main staircase was intentionally built at a relatively low angle and with deep stair treads, to add a sculptural element to the interior. It is also surrounded by vegetation for extra privacy.
The six bedroom, 5½ bathroom home is lined in hurricane-proof windows from Swiss company Vitrocsa, according to Mr. Kadey, who designed the home with his brother and architect Ivan Kadey.
A glass elevator connects the three-story home, where nearly every room opens to the outdoors. The kitchen includes Dekton countertops, a material produced to be durable and scratch-resistant. Bathroom fixtures come from the Italian company Boffi.
Mr. Kadey said the design of the master suite was inspired by a hotel room he stayed in, with floor-to-ceiling glass doors facing a patio and the oceanfront. There is a roof deck with a Jacuzzi and a first-floor entertaining deck with an outdoor kitchen, a cabana and a 60-foot swim lane. A winding garden leads to the beach.
