The Miami Heat have re-signed Dewayne Dedmon on a two-year, $9 million deal, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

A midseason knee injury limited Dedmon’s production last season across 67 games, the most he’s played since 2016-17. He averaged 6.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 0.6 blocks in 15.9 minutes per game — equivalent a 14.3 point-13.0 rebound-1.4 block per 36 minutes stat line.

Dedmon was virtually a non-factor in Miami’s playoff run — oftentimes shifting to P.J. Tucker as the backup-5 for extended stretches in important minutes instead of Dedmon. Here is what I wrote about Dedmon in his 2021-22 player review:

In his first full season with Miami, the glitz and glamour from the backup 5 spot from Dedmon — that we saw throughout 16 games in 2020-21 — slowly, but surely, faded away. A midseason knee injury plus a substantially longer workload didn’t help matters at all. However, Dedmon did have one of the most efficient seasons of his career, posting his third-best field goal pecentage, 2-point percentage and true-shooting percentage. He also rejected more shots per 100 possessions (2.0) than he did in 2020-21 (1.4) and still provided value on the offensive glass when he was on the court

Since Miami opted to give Dedmon a multi-year raise over his previous one-year minimum, you can’t help but wonder if this is precursor as added salary for a future trade.

But anywho, Dedmon returns and Miami has their backup-5 with Omer Yurtseven.
