Identified man who fatally shot neighbor in head during dispute, police say

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A fatal shooting Sunday in Southwest Miami-Dade County was set off by an argument between neighbors, members of the community say.

Miami-Dade police confirmed that one man shot in the head was pronounced dead at the scene at Southwest 99th Avenue and 27th Terrace and that the suspected shooter is in custody.

The suspect has been identified as Angel Perez, 68, and he faces a charge of second-degree murder with a weapon, police said.

Neighbors told Local 10 News that it started with an argument and that the victim was a man in his 50s who had been out walking his dog.

According to an arrest report, the victim — whose name has not been released by police — was initially involved in a verbal dispute with Perez’s girlfriend. She allegedly went into their home and told Perez a vulgar comment that the victim had directed toward him, at which point Perez came out and shot the man, police said.

Neighbors say they heard multiple gunshots.

One neighbor said the argument that led to the killing was over a pressure cleaner. It happened Sunday at at Southwest 99th Avenue and 27th Terrace.

Perez went home after the shooting and was taken into custody there shortly thereafter, investigators said.

Detectives say surveillance video shows the shooting and that they found the revolver in Perez’s home.

“It’s definitely very sad,” one neighbor said. “Especially now, Christmas is right around the corner. I don’t know what these people were thinking.”

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call police. Miami-Dade Crimestoppers can be reached at (305) 471-8477.
