Inter Miami CF left Saturday’s match against Orlando City SC — a 2-1 win versus their in-state rival — accomplishing all of the tasks they set out for themselves.
Leandro Gonzalez Pirez’s game-winning goal in the 89th minute gave Inter Miami the three points they needed to jump above the playoff line in the Eastern Conference standings for the first time in front of their largest home crowd of the inaugural season.
And it also brought the regular-season series between Major League Soccer’s two Florida teams to a 2-2 tie.
Inter Miami’s (6-11-3, 21 points) victory lifted them over 12th-place Atlanta United FC (5-11-4, 19 points) and 11th-place Chicago Fire FC (5-8-5, 20 points).
