Bugle Miami

Luis Suarez the subject of interest from Inter Miami and Corinthians

Luis Suarez‘s time in Europe could be coming to an end, with suggestions that MLS club Inter Miami and Brazilian side Corinthians are interested in signing the veteran striker.

After a glittering club career at Ajax, Liverpool, and Barcelona, the Uruguay international has enjoyed renewed success with Atletico Madrid over the past two seasons.

Suarez scored 21 goals in 32 La Liga games in 2020/21 as Diego Simeone’s team won the title for the first time since 2014. This season, he’s already found the net seven times in 12 starts, though Atletico are some way off the pace in their efforts to retain the title.

The 34-year-old’s current deal expires in June 2022. According to journalist Ekrem Konur, this will be the point when he leaves Europe, 17 years after first swapping Uruguay for Netherlands.

Inter Miami are thought to have already offered Suarez a two-year contract, while Brazilian giants Corinthians are also said to be ‘closely monitoring’ his situation.

For Miami to facilitate a deal, they would have work to do reshaping their roster. The Herons already have three Designated Players (DP) in Gonzalo Higuain, Rodolfo Pizarro, and Blaise Matuidi – the signing of the latter landed the club in hot water after they failed to meet MLS roster compliance.

One of those players would either have to leave or have their contract bought down to allow Suarez through the door, while Miami already have spending restrictions in place as punishment for the Matuidi saga.

Higuain is likely to remain, but Pizarro has been linked with a return to Liga MX recently, while Matuidi was left unprotected by Miami during the recent MLS Expansion Draft.
