Men hold up family at gunpoint during home invasion in Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Two armed men held a 5-year-old girl and her parents at gunpoint during a home invasion on Monday in Miami-Dade County’s Tamiami neighborhood, police said.

The men arrived while the girl and her 34-year-old mother walked out of their home about 8 a.m., on Southwest 130th Avenue near Coral Way, police said.

“She was walking her daughter out to take her to school,” Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said, later adding, “The subjects ordered them back into the residence, and once inside, they were met by the husband.”

The men tied up the mother’s hands and the 53-year-old father’s hands and feet, police said. The men stole cash and other items before driving away in the family’s 2019 Land Rover Discovery, police said.

“Once the officers arrived they discovered the fact that there was some type of ransacking that went on in the house, they were able to set free the homeowners and they were able to locate an abandoned vehicle just two blocks to the west,” Zabaleta said.

Zabaleta said the girl’s father suffered minor injuries as one of the men assaulted him. The initial 911 call came from the neighbor’s home. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the armed burglary to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
