Video Shows Amtrak Train Fitting Into The Miami Intermodal Center In First Test Run

Amtrak recently completed a successful test run for the first time ever into the Miami Intermodal Center.

Several videos posted to Youtube show that trains were able to fully enter the platform area, without blocking a nearby street.

Previously, there was concern that the trains would be too long for the platforms at the MIC, and require the closure of Northwest 25th Street while parked.

It isn’t clear if Amtrak wants to run even longer trains into the MIC than the one tested.

A baggage cart driven from Amtrak’s planned head office at the MIC to the train was also tested, the video shows.

The Florida Department of Transportation completed the station at the MIC in 2015, intending for Amtrak to use it. However, Amtrak did not accept the terms of a lease agreement, and never operated from there.
