MIAMI – New video shows a crash and chaotic situation in South Florida where police made a startling discovery while looking inside the abandoned SUV in Miami.
The crash started with an attempted traffic stop by police Tuesday morning. The people inside the car just took off, hit a woman and kept on going.
Video shows a white BMW traveling very fast north on Seventh Avenue and crashing through a fenced-in grassy lot and the wall of a boarded up home near the intersection of Northwest 47th Street, by the Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, before stopping.
Reluctant to speak on camera, a woman said her son, Berge Orozco, was one of the three men in the speeding SUV.
“I don’t know what to think,” said the woman.
Miami Police said the trio cut off an officer. When that officer tried to pull them over, they took off.
Police said they found four firearms in the vehicle. The mom told 7News that doesn’t make sense.
“Your thing would be to try to go by the police, around them, not cut them off. That don’t make sense,” said the woman.
Police said Orozco’s cousin, Devontae Bobby McCrae was the driver and Ahmad Trevon Lee was in the front passenger seat.
Orozco’s mother said her son and nephew are in college and all played football.
A man who lives in the neighborhood said speeding in the area is always a concern.
“Oh, yeah, it’s a race track out there,” said Kurheidisha Rashid. “About two or three times a week you’ve got the young people with the motorcycles, they clouded the street out for a couple of hours, but that’s an everyday occurrence out here.”
It took Rashid a while to get back home because police blocked off the area, as they were continuing to investigate the crash and vehicle.
“I wasn’t here when it happened,” said Rashid. “My wife called me. I was in a class, and because it was an Escalade, same color of mine, same everything, and so when I came back down, about an hour or so ago, and I couldn’t get in.”
All three were arrested and face several charges including resisting an officer without violence and carrying a concealed firearm.
No injuries were reported.
The condition of the woman who was hit remains unclear.
